INDESCRIBABLE

This captivating book brings together devotional insight, scientific thought, and magnificent images of the universe. The psalmist sang that the “heavens declare the glory of God.” (19:1). Throughout these stunning pages, Louie Giglio and Matt Redman join in thatvery same song–noting just how powerfully the wonders of the comos can speak to us of the majesty and mercy of our Maker.

M78: This new image of the reflection nebula M78 was captured using the Wide Field Imager camera on the MPG//ESO 2.2 meter telescope at the La Sila Observatory, Chile. Located in the constellationOrion, M78 (NCG 2068) is about 1,300 light-years distant from Earth. Push and Pull of Plasma: SDO zoomed in on an interesting display of magnetic forces at work as strands of plasma were tugged back and forth over three days (May 23-25, 2011) above the Sun's surface. Complex magnetic forces were pulling the material along magnetic field lines. We are observing ionized helium at about sixty thousand degrees Celsuis in extreme ultraviolet light. Solar Pinwheel: Detailed view of the star birth in the graceful, curving arms of the nearby spiral galaxy M83 (Southern Pinwheel). N44 in the Large Magellanic Cloud: Southern part of the spectacular N44 region in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The green color indicates areas that are particularly hot. Cover Image (Close Up): Solar transit of the space shuttle Atlantis (STS-132) less than one hour prior to docking with the International Space Station (ISS), taken from Madrid, Spain, May16, 2010. Aboard Atlantis were copies of Matt’s CD We Shall Not Be Shaken and Louie’s DVD How Great Is Our God, carried into space by Mission Specialist Michael T. Good. 360-Degree Panorama of the Southern Sky: The Milky Way arches across this rare 360-degree panorama of the night sky above the Paranal platform, home of the ESO's Very Large Telescope. The image was made from thirty-seven individual frames with a total exposure time of about thirty minutes taken in the early morning hours. The open telescope domes of the world’s most advanced ground-based astronomical observatory are all visible in the image. To the right in the image and below the arc of the Milky Way, two of our galactic neighbors, the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds, can be seen. Orion Nebula: NASA's Spitzer and Hubble Sapce telescopes teamed up to expose the chaos that baby stars are creating 1,500 light-years away in a cosmic cloud called the Orion Nebula. This striking composite indicates that four monstrously massive stars, collectively called the "Trapezium,"e; at the center of the cloud may be the main culprits in the Orion constellation. Also known as M42, or NGC 1976, Orion is one of the brightest nebulae, containing more than 1,000 young stars. Helix Nebula Detail: Located only 690 light-years from Earth, the Helix Nebula is one of our closest planetary nebula neighbors, a cloud of gas and dust, the remnants of a dying star. V838 Monocerotis: The outburst of Monocerotis's (red glowing star, center) recent death has been captured by NASA in several images, revealing things previously unknown about the death of a star. In this image, taken two years following the star's enormous pulse of light, clouds of dust are seen swirling in incredibly graceful patterns. The Trifid Nebula: The Trifid Nebula is a rare combination of the three nebula types that reveal the fury of freshly formed stars and points to more star birth in the future. Shuttle Silhouette: In a very unique setting over Earths colorful horizon, the silhouette of the space shuttle Endeavour is featured in this photo by an Expedition 22 crew member on board the International Space Station, as the shuttle approached for its docking on February 9, 2010, during the STS-130 mission. Helix Nebula: Located only 690 light-years from Earth, the Helix Neblua is one of our closest planetary nebula neighbors. Although the Helix Nebula looks simple, recent evidence has led astronomers to believe there might be a secondary doughnut lying perpendicular to the circular image seen here, possibly caused by a companion star at its core. Rings of Saturn: This image of Saturn's rings was taken by the Cassini spacecraft in June 2004. Captured with ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph instrument, the picture reveals the difference in makeup of Saturn’s multicolored rings. The red rings nearest to the left consist of dirtier, possibly smaller particles than the icier rings that are farther from the planet's surface. One Hundred Virgo Cluster Galaxies: The globular cluster systems of one hundred galaxies observed within the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) Virgo Cluster Survey. Nebula in Scorpius: Two stars orbit one another in the core of the large emission nebula NGC 6357 in Scorpius, about eight thousand light-years away from Earth. NASA, ESA, J. Maiz Apellaniz Earth: The different trajectory taken by the Apollo 17 astronauts allowed them to capture the southern polar ice cap for the first time in this image. Pleiades: The Pleiades, or Seven Sisters, lie in the constellation Taurus, roughly 440 light-years from Earth...the cluster is composed of about 1,000 stars. Spicules on the Sun: Lasting about five minutes, these solar features start out as tall tubes of rapidly rising gas but eventually fade as the gas peaks and falls back down to the Sun. Vela Pulsar: This is the Vela Pulsar, a neutron star seen after a supernova explosion. The crossbow shape is caused by hot gases that surround the star, with a jeet emerging from one of the star's rotational poles in the upper right-hand corner. Supernova Shock Wave: In February 1987, astronomers witnessed the brightest supernova seen in over four hundred years...A schock wave that was released during the explosion collided with a ring of gas at more than a million miles per hour, heating the gas and producing the ring of lit "pearls." Cat's Eye Nebula: Image: X-ray: NASA/UIUC/Y.Chu et al. Optical: NASA/HST Hubble Ultra Deep Field (10,000 Galaxies): This view of nearly ten thousand galaxies is the depest portrait of the visible universe ever achieved by humankind... The Ultra Deep Field represents a narrow, deep view of the cosmos, like looking though an eight-foot-long soda straw. Hubble in Space: The telescope is seen far above Earth, orbiting at a distance of 353 miles, high enough to avoid atmospheric interference. Kepler's Supernova Remnant: Observations from three of NASA's observatories have been combined to create this colorful image of a supernova. This stellar explosion was first seen over four hundred years ago by Johannes Kepler and others, as the brightness was visible with the naked eye. Joe Tanner: Fastened to the space shuttle's robotic arm, astronaut Joseph Tanner is working to replace the Hubble's Fin Guidance Sensors during the STS-82 Hubble Servicing Mission in
February 1987. Also pictured is astronaut Gregory Harbaugh. Moon: When the Moon and Sun align perfectly with our planet, an image like this can be seen from Earth. Wheel Within a Wheel: Located six hundred million light-years from Earth, to this day, the odd shape of "Hoag's Object" has puzzled astronomers. The yellow nucleus is composed of older dying stars, while the bright blue ring is made up of many newly born stars.>
